Károly Markó the Elder, also known by the Italian name Carlo Marco, stands as a foundational figure in the history of Hungarian landscape painting. In his early years, Markó pursued an apprenticeship in engineering within Pest and Kolozsvár, today known as Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
