      An American Pioneer of Abstraction

Agnes Weinrich was an American visual artist whose career spanned several decades of the twentieth century. Born in Iowa, she traveled to Germany to study art in Berlin and later studied in Chicago, Munich, Rome, Florence, Venice, and Paris. Her artistic practice involved a variety of media, including oil paintings, watercolors, pastels, block prints, etchings, pencil, and crayon.

Weinrich's work transitioned through different stylistic phases. Her early works were characterized by realism, while later periods included semi-abstract styles and purely abstract, nonobjective compositions featuring hard-edge geometric forms. She was a member of the Provincetown Printers and a founding member of the New York Society of Women Artists.

      Exhibitions and Artistic Legacy

Throughout her career, Weinrich maintained studios in both Manhattan and Provincetown. Her work was featured in numerous exhibitions across various locations, including:

      • The Provincetown Art Association
      • The New York Society of Women Artists
      • The Society of Independent Artists
      • The Art Institute of Chicago
      • The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia

In addition to group shows, she held solo exhibitions at the Harley Perkins Gallery in Boston, the public library in Washington, D.C., and the Woljeska Gallery in Brooklyn. Her prints often utilized the white-line technique, and her paintings included subjects such as still lifes, landscapes, and figures.
