Elemír Köszeghy-Winkler
A Life Between Borders Elemír Köszeghy-Winkler lived through a period of shifting maps and changing identities. Born in 1882 in Ružomberok, Slovakia, his path took him from the study of law in Vienna, Budapest, and Bratislava to the fine arts academies of Vienna and Budapest. He moved between roles as a painter, restorer, art historian, and official. His early years were marked by travels supported by scholarships to Rome and Turkey in
1902. By the time he reached maturity, his life was tied to the museums of Košice and Levoča, where he served as director and secretary. Later, a move to Budapest followed the political shifts of the late 1930s, where he directed the Museum of Applied Arts until 1945. His family roots were deep in the region.
