The Evolution of Perceptual Realism Born in London, Ontario, as John Richard Chambers, the artist was known professionally as Jack Chambers after 1970. His artistic journey began with studies at Sir Adam Beck Collegiate Institute under Selwyn Dewdney, followed by time at H.B. Beal Secondary School and the University of Western Ontario. Between 1953 and 1961, he spent eight years studying and working in Europe, where he met Pablo Picasso
. His early painting style was influenced by Surrealism, particularly during his time in Spain, but his approach evolved significantly over time. Chambers developed a unique theory he called Perceptual Realism, a concept he detailed in an essay in the late 1960s.
