alfréd justitz was a czech modernist painter and illustrator, born in nová cerekev, czech republic in 1879 and died in bratislava, slovakia in 1934. he was one of three sons born into a jewish family and studied architecture at the czech technical university in prague before transferring to the academy of fine arts. early life and education justitz worked with ludwig schmid-reutte in karlsruhe and wilhelm trübner in berlin. in 1910, he visited paris and was influenced by the works of paul cézanne and honoré daumier. from 1918 to 1924, he exhibited with tvrdošíjní, a group of mostly young, mod…
