The Life of František Meissl
František Meissl was a Slovak painter, pharmacist, and local historian. Born in Pezinok, Slovakia, he was of Austrian nobility, with his paternal grandfather owning an estate in Freyendorf. His early education began at an elementary school in Pezinok, followed by a Jesuit gymnasium in Svätý Jur. He later moved to Vienna, where he graduated as a pharmacist.
Returning to Pezinok in the 1860s, he spent much of his productive life there. He served as a pharmacist, a member of the municipal council, and a director of a savings bank. He was also a founder and commander of a fire brigade, eventually becoming an honorary member. In 1896, Emperor Franz Joseph I granted him the title of knight for his public service. He spent his final years in Austria and is buried in Sierndorf, Lower Austria.
