His professional journey spanned several major European centers, including London, United Kingdom, Saint Petersburg, Russia, and Wilno. After arriving in Russia between 1794 and 1796, he eventually became the "imperial engraver" and "Historical Court Engraver" at the

Hermitage. His academic recognition extended across borders, as he was a member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts and the Stockholm Arts Academy. In 1810, Saunders transitioned into a significant academic role as the Professor of Fine Art at Wilno University.
