The Berlin Academy and the Sea Berlin, 1847. A life begins that will eventually find its rhythm in the salt spray of the Atlantic and the Pacific. Carl Saltzmann enters the world, later finding his way into the studios of the masters. He studies under Hermann Eschke, absorbing the discipline required for precise marine painting. His path leads through Düsseldorf, then across the borders of the Netherlands and Italy, before he settles back in Berlin.
