A Life Shaped by the Academy and the Hearth The story of Dominik Skutecký begins in the wake of personal loss, as the passing of his father in 1859 prompted his family to seek a new beginning in Vienna. It was within this imperial city that the young man first began to grasp the tools of his craft, studying under the sculptor Johann Meixner.
