Early Life, Family and Training János Thain was born on September 5, 1885, in Nové Zámky, Slovakia. His early years were spent in the village of Semerovo, a place where he first encountered the visual language of folk creativity. This early exposure to local craftsmanship and traditional patterns stayed with him as he moved back to Nové Zámky to complete his primary school and gymnasium studies. His path led him away from the familiar streets of his hometown toward the University of Fine Arts in Budapest.
