The Groningen Landscape and the Quiet Life Johan Dijkstra lived a life closely tied to the soil and the light of the northern Netherlands. Born in 1896, he spent much of his time in Groningen, finding his subject matter in the local scenery and the faces of the people around him. His work often returned to the same corners of the world: the quiet stretches of the Hoogeland, the farmhouses near Eekwerd, and the roads winding through Antum.
