The Amersfoort Legacy Amersfoort, a city in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, provides the backdrop for the life of Jordanus Hoorn. Born in 1753 to a cloth merchant, his path diverged from the family trade toward the precision of the brush and the discipline of the draftsperson. He enters the artistic sphere as a pupil of the landscape painter Gerrit Toorenburgh, absorbing the visual language of the natural world through the guidance of a master.
