Auguste Mathieu
The Life and Art of Auguste Mathieu Born in Dijon, France, Auguste Mathieu was a versatile artist who worked as a painter, engraver, lithographer, and architectural painter. A student of Pierre-Luc-Charles Ciceri, Mathieu began exhibiting at the Salon at the age of twenty-six in 1833, a practice he maintained until his death in Paris. His artistic journey took him across Europe, including several stays in Germany, where he captured vari
ous views of civil and religious architecture. These architectural subjects were often reproduced through lithography. Beyond his travels, he painted numerous monuments and genre scenes throughout France, presenting his work in exhibitions organized by local artistic societies.
