Born in Pärsti Rural Municipality, Estonia, Villem Ormisson was a painter and art educator. His formal training began at the Heine High School in Viljandi and Hugo Treffner High School in Tartu, followed by studies at the Riga City Art School from 1910 to 1914. Ormisson's artistic output primarily focused on landscapes and still lifes, with occasional portraits. His early works showed influences of Impressionism and the work of Konrad Mägi. Following his travels to Germany in 1922, his style incorporated Expressionist features, characterized by darker colors and a predominant greenish-blue tone. By the 1930s, his work returned to more Impressionistic landscapes, particularly his peaceful winter views of Tartu.
