Jean Appleton
The Artistic Journey of Jean Appleton Born in the Sydney suburb of Ashfield, Jean Appleton was a painter, art teacher, and printmaker who demonstrated a lifelong passion for the arts. After earning an intermediate certificate in arts in 1928, she enrolled in a five-year diploma course in drawing and illustration at the East Sydney Technical College. Her formal education continued in England at the Westminster School of Art, where she s
tudied under Bernard Meninsky and Mark Gertler. During her time in London, she produced Australia's two earliest cubist paintings, titled Still Life 1937 and Painting IX 1937.
