Anke Reevers
The Texture of Existence Anke Reevers was born in 1945 in Heerlen. Her hands have spent decades working with the raw materials of the earth, often applying pigment, gouache, or charcoal directly to paper. There is a physical weight to her process; she has been known to use her fingers and palms to move color across a surface, letting the texture of the paper record every touch. This tactile approach turns the act of making into a record
of movement, where the medium itself becomes a participant in the work. Her education took her through the Academie St. Joost in Breda, where she studied from 1973 to 1978, and later to the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht until 1980. These years of formal training provided the foundation for a practice that seeks the hidden mechanics of life.
