      Bernardo Strozzi, ook wel bekend onder de namen il Cappuccino en il Prete Genovese, was een vooraanstaande Italiaanse barokschilder en graveur, geboren in 1581 in Genua, Italië. Zijn artistieke vorming begon in het atelier van Cesare Corte, een minder bekende Genuese schilder, wiens begeleiding essentieel was voor de ontwikkeling van Strozzi's vaardigheden tot 1596. De weg naar een meer naturalistische stijl werd vervolgens ingezet toen hij zich aansloot bij het atelier van Pietro Sorri, een innovatieve schilder uit Siena die een blijvende invloed op zijn techniek zou uitoefenen.
