Pforzheim Jewellery Museum (Pforzheim, Germany)

Explore 5000 years of jewelry history at the Pforzheim Jewellery Museum! Discover exquisite pieces from Greco-Roman times to Art Nouveau & modern designs, celebrating Pforzheim's legacy as Germany’s "Gold City."

Theodor Wende styled himself a »goldsmith between eras«. Stubbornly indepent, he worked for several years at the Mathildenhöhe artsts’ colony in Darmstadt before accepting an appointment to teach at the Pforzheim Kunstgewerbeschule. Wende was equally successful as a teacher and as a freelance artist. His jewellery, which hardly ever sucjected to the dictate of a particular style or movement, was appreciated in Pforzheim circles that were receptive to new ideas and in any case widely acclaimed far beyond that city. While still in Darmstadt, he developed a highly individual style, whose possibilities he then continued to explore and consolidate formally. Boasting the sophisticated three-dimensional decoration typical of Wende’s work, the upper third of the escutcheon-shaped pendant is set with facetted aquarmarine. The necklace consists of elements worked in the Wende style.
