      Life and Artistic Beginnings

Through his connection to Verhaert, he developed a profound affinity for the sea, often visiting Oostduinkerke and becoming part of the informal "École de Nieuport" after acquiring his own studio in Nieuport.

By 1916, he joined the "peintres du front" (painters of the front) as an observer, tasked with documenting the ravaged landscapes of Flanders through painting, drawing, and pen. Following the war, his life took him through France, including Versailles, Brittany, the Landes, and the Côte d'Azur, before he returned to Belgium to reside in La Hulpe and Brussels.
