The Legacy of Tomba Emmanuelle
Vigeland's magnum opus is his mausoleum, known as Tomba Emmanuelle, located in Oslo. This windowless structure functions as both a mausoleum and a museum. The interior features a giant fresco titled Vita, which covers the walls and roof to depict human life, love, and death. The space is noted for its overwhelming acoustics, making loud speech nearly impossible. The design includes sculptures of women giving birth on the floor and a low entry point where the artist's urn is placed in a niche, requiring visitors to bow when exiting.
