The Life and Artistic Evolution of Hildegard Joos

Born in Sieghartskirchen, Austria, Hildegard Joos began her artistic journey by studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Her early creative output was characterized by works that were figurative, colorful, and expressive. As her career progressed, she became a central figure in the development of geometric abstraction and constructivism in Austria, eventually earning the title of the "Grande Dame" of abstract painting in her home country.

In 1955, she joined the Vienna Secession, and in 1958, she became the first female artist to hold a solo exhibition in the main room of the Vienna Secession. From 1959 onwards, she maintained a studio in Paris alongside her husband, Harold Joos. During her time in Paris, she achieved significant recognition for her monistic paintings and became a member of the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in 1972.
