      Early Life and Artistic Training

Marcos Tiglio was born in the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 24, 1903. Growing up in this part of the city, he eventually began his formal studies at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. His time there was marked by a deep commitment to the fundamentals of his craft, focusing heavily on the technical aspects of his medium.

By 1930, Tiglio had completed his studies, earning an Artistic Drawing degree. That same year, he also graduated as a Professor of Drawing, a qualification that reflected his disciplined approach to the visual arts. During his formative years in the classroom, he studied under the guidance of Emilio Centurión and Jorge Larco, who helped shape his early understanding of composition and form.

As his training progressed, his artistic direction began to take a more specific shape. The influence of Alfredo Guttero and Miguel Carlos Victorica proved decisive for him, helping to guide his pictorial orientation toward the style he would eventually pursue throughout his career. These mentors provided the foundation upon which he built his technical skill and his unique way of seeing the world.

      Exhibitions and Career Highlights

Marcos Tiglio began making his mark on the local art scene quite early. In 1929, he sent his first piece to the Salón Nacional, a significant step for any emerging painter. This period of growth led to his first solo exhibition in 1935 at Galería Nordiska. As his reputation grew, he became a regular presence in various national and provincial showrooms, sharing his vision with a wider audience through many different exhibitions.

His career saw steady progression through several prestigious venues. He exhibited at the Peuser gallery in 1947, followed by a showing at Witcomb in 1951. By 1962, his work was being presented at the Wildenstein gallery. His reach extended beyond the borders of Argentina as well, as he participated in collective exhibitions in both Chile and Brazil. These international appearances helped establish his presence throughout the region.

A major moment in his professional life occurred in 1963, when the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires held a retrospective of his work. This event allowed new generations of artists to see the breadth of his contribution to Argentine art. His public presence continued until his final individual exhibition at Galería Feldman in 1974.

      Awards and Recognition

Tiglio’s steady presence in the Argentine art scene was marked by several significant honors that reflected his growing influence. In 1937, he was awarded the Premio Grierson, a recognition that arrived during a formative period of his career. His technical skill was further acknowledged in 1949 when he received the Primer Premio Salón de Acuarelistas, highlighting his proficiency in the medium.

As his career progressed, he continued to earn respect within national competitions. In 1963, he was granted the Segundo Premio en el Salón Nacional. This period of his life also saw a major milestone when the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires held a retrospective exhibition of his work. This gathering of his paintings allowed new generations of artists to encounter the depth of his contribution to Argentine art.

      Notable Artworks and Subjects

Tiglio’s brush often turned toward the quiet details of everyday life and the specific character of his surroundings. His work from the early 1940s includes an Untitled piece from about 1941. He frequently worked with oil on board, a choice that allowed him to explore texture and form in a direct way. This is seen in his piece titled COMPOSICION (49), where he focused on the arrangement of elements within the frame.

The landscapes and urban settings of his home often found their way onto his canvases. In 1965, he painted SAN TELMO, capturing a sense of place through his specific visual language. He also turned his attention to the river and the industrial atmosphere of the city in Puerto -Riachuelo (47). This work, executed in oil on hardboard, reflects the textures of the environment he observed throughout his life in Buenos Aires.
