The Emergence of a Nanga Master Born into a merchant family in the Bungo-han region, which is known today as Oita Prefecture, Takahashi Sōhei emerged as a distinctive voice within the Nanga school of Japanese painting. His artistic journey began in earnest at the age of nineteen when he encountered the esteemed painter Tanomura Chikuden.
