Born in Bern, Switzerland, Friedrich Eckenfelder was a German impressionist painter who became widely recognized for his portrayals of farm horses and townscapes set against the backdrop of the Swabian Alps. He later enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he became a founding member of the Munich Secession.
