Born in the Spanish city of Álcoi, Rigoberto Perez Soler was an artist whose destiny was shaped by a profound rebellion against tradition. While his father, a dedicated administrator in the city’s recording office, envisioned a stable future for his son in the world of banking, Soler found his true calling within the vibrant strokes of a paintbrush. He sought refuge in the pursuit of beauty, training formally at the School of Arts and Crafts in Valencia and later at the prestigious School of Fine Arts of San Carlos. This rigorous academic foundation provided him with the technical mastery that would eventually allow him to capture the ephemeral essence of the Spanish landscape with a soft, Impressionist touch.

The trajectory of Soler’s life changed forever when he moved to the island of Ibiza in the mid-1920s. This move was more than a change of scenery; it was an immersion into a world of sun-drenched landscapes and coastal intimacy. Settling in the village of Santa Eulària des Riu, he famously constructed a modest dwelling known as Niu Blau, or Blue Nest, near a small cove. This location became so intertwined with his identity that the nearby beach, Platja des Niu Blau, remains named in homage to his home. During these formative years on the island, Soler lived a bohemian existence, often featuring his girlfriend and model, Pilar, in his works, capturing the local spirit and the people who inhabited this Mediterranean paradise.

Though he eventually sold his beloved Ibiza home in 1956, the island remained an indelible part of his creative soul.
