lee ungno, známý také jako yi eungro, byl korejským narozeným francouzským malířem a grafikem, který přišel na svět v roce 1904 v Seulu v Jižní Koreji. Jeho raná léta byla poznamenána krátkým působením na škole Hongseong Botong Hakyo (홍성보통학교, 홍城초등학교, 洪城普通學校), po které se od roku 1920 plně zasvětil studiu malířství pod vedením mistra yeomjae song tae-hoe.**umělecká dráha v Koreji a Japonsku**
Umělecká cesta lee ungno začala skutečně teprve poté, co se v roce 1922 přestěhoval do Seulu, kde se stal učedníkem slavného kaligrafy, malíře i fotografa haegang kim gyu-jin.
