Born in Volpago del Montello, Italy, Island Guizzo was a painter whose life was marked by significant transitions. A profound experience of being interned in a concentration camp conditioned his early production, but following his liberation, he resumed his artistic activity, which became the primary purpose of his life.
In 1952, Guizzo moved from the province of Treviso to Rome, a city experiencing the splendor of the Dolce Vita and neorealist cinema. He became an integral part of the cultural movements of via Margutta and il Babuino. His talent as a portraitist was recognized by figures such as Giorgio de Chirico, who described him as a painter of strong temperament and an effective portraitist. His subjects included cultural and entertainment figures such as Aldo Fabrizi and Ornella Vanoni.
Legacy and Recognition
Guizzo’s work earned him a prominent place in Roman art criticism and several prestigious awards, including the Marc'Aurelio. While he achieved fame in Rome, he maintained a deep connection to his homeland, traveling between Rome, Treviso, and the Montello landscape. His art was inspired by the 500s Venetian Masters and the landscapes of his birthplace.
