The Life and Art of János Pető
Born in Mezőkövesd, Hungary, János Pető was a painter and graphic artist who developed his talent early under the guidance of his father, a master tinsmith. His formal artistic education began at the Budapest Art High School and continued at the Hungarian College of Fine Arts between 1959 and 1964, where he studied both painting and graphics under masters such as Ék Sándor, Fónyi Géza, and Raszler Károly.

After receiving the Derkovits scholarship from 1967 to 1970, he moved to Miskolc, residing in the artist colony on Szinyei Merse Pál Street. While his early career focused heavily on graphics, he eventually expanded his practice to include painting. His works are characterized by a restrained color palette, often utilizing brownish tones, and a surrealistic atmosphere.
