This period of structured duty provided a stark contrast to the creative pursuits he began to cultivate in earnest during his studies at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts between 1859 and 1865.
His trajectory shifted significantly in 1870 when he moved to Düsseldorf. At that time, the city functioned as a vital center for Scandinavian painters seeking to refine their craft within the established traditions of the Düsseldorf School. He sought to dedicate himself entirely to art, yet his career was abruptly halted by his death in Düsseldorf in 1871. He was only thirty-six years old.
