The Final Scion of the Francken Dynasty
Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Constantijn Francken was the final painter in the illustrious Francken family, a lineage that had been a cornerstone of Flemish art since the second half of the 16th century. After a period of activity in Paris, where he may have served as a court painter to the King, he returned to Antwerp, where he joined the Guild of St. Luke as a wijnmeester.
