      A Life in Expressionism

Emmy Klinker was a painter associated with the Expressionism movement. Born in Eupen, Belgium, she received her initial artistic training at the age of sixteen under the landscape painter Paul von Ravenstein. Seeking to further her education, she moved from Karlsruhe to Berlin at the age of twenty, where she studied under Lovis Corinth and Martin Brandenburg. Following a period of study in Paris, she settled in Munich, becoming a student of Albert Bloch from 1916 onwards.

Her career included exhibitions with the Novembergruppe in Berlin and the Junges Rheinland group in Düsseldorf. In 1919, she exhibited at the Galerie Sturm in Berlin alongside Albert Bloch and Kurt Schwitters. Throughout her life, she maintained a close friendship with Albert Bloch and remained in contact with Gabriele Münter for many decades.
