After serving in the First World War, where he sustained a lifelong injury, he began his formal studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Angelo Jank. His life was marked by extensive travel, including journeys to the United States, Europe, and eventually South Africa. During his time in South Africa, his painting style underwent a significant transformation, becoming more expressive and color-intensive, often incorporating cubist inspirations into his portraits and landscapes.

Stadelmann's oeuvre is primarily characterized by his mastery of still life and landscape painting.
