A Life of Historical Documentation
Born in Lörrach, Germany, Friedrich Kaiser was a painter, engraver, war artist, and lithographer. His artistic journey began with training in Karlsruhe, where he initially sought to become a lithographer. After traveling to Paris, he became captivated by the battle paintings of Horace Vernet, which led him to dedicate his career to this genre of painting. Kaiser was a pioneer of pictorial reporting, creating drawings for the Leipziger illustrierte Zeitung—the first illustrated newspaper in Germany.
