His brush captured a world in transition. Between 1845 and 1855, his work focused heavily on the towns, castles, and monasteries of Upper Swabia. He had a particular interest in the movement of daily life, often including the heavy wheels of freight wagons or the steady pace of passenger carriages in his compositions. These were not mere scenes; they were records of a specific time and place, capturing the architecture and the atmosphere of the 19th-century landscape with a documentary precision.
