Michal Dubay was a Slovak painter, educator, and publicist who played a significant role in the cultural life of eastern Slovakia. Born in Hačava, Slovakia, he was the eldest of seven children in a family whose father, Dezider Dubay, worked in Pittsburgh, USA, to support them. After completing his studies in Mukachevo, Dubay pursued higher education in Prague, where he studied history, geography, and librarianship at Charles University. He was a co-founder of several organizations, including the Pedagogical Faculty in Prešov and the State Scientific Library in Košice.
