His creative output was deeply intertwined with the evolution of Australian media; he was a key figure in the establishment of The Australian Women's Weekly, where he produced numerous cover illustrations and the popular comic strip In and Out of Society. During the Second World War, Pidgeon served as a war correspondent, traveling to locations including Darwin, New Guinea, Morotai, and Borneo to document the daily lives of troops through sketches and paintings.
