      • Elizabeth "Bessie" MacNicol wuchs in Glasgow mit zwei überlebenden Schwestern auf. Sie litt während der Sommermonate unter Allergieproblemen.
      • Sie besuchte von 1887 bis 1892 die Glasgow School of Art, wo sie ihre künstlerischen Fähigkeiten entwickelte.
