      Frühe Jahre und künstlerische Anfänge

      Gino Severini wurde am 7. April 1883 in Cortona, Italien, in einer bescheidenen Familie geboren – sein Vater war ein Juniorbeamter und seine Mutter eine Modistin. Seine frühe Schulbildung erhielt er an der Scuola Tecnica in Cortona, bis er und mehrere Klassenkameraden im Alter von fünfzehn Jahren wegen des Versuchs, Prüfungsarbeiten zu stehlen, ausgeschlossen wurden. Dieses Ereignis beendete seine formale Schulausbildung. Trotz dieses Rückschlags verfolgte Severini seine künstlerischen Interessen weiterhin unabhängig, während er als Versandbeamter arbeitete. Er zog 1899 nach Rom, wo er Kunstkurse besuchte und ein frühes Interesse an Divisionismus entwickelte, beeinflusst von Künstlern wie Giacomo Balla und Umberto Boccioni. Diese prägenden Jahre legten den Grundstein für seine spätere Beteiligung an der Futurismus-Bewegung.

      Die Hinwendung zum Futurismus

      Severinis künstlerische Entwicklung nahm eine bedeutende Wendung, als er eingeladen wurde, sich Filippo Tommaso Marinetti und Umberto Boccioni in der aufstrebenden Futurismus-Bewegung zu anschließen. Er unterzeichnete 1910 das *Manifesto der futuristischen Maler* und positionierte sich damit für die revolutionären Ideale, die Dynamik, Geschwindigkeit, Technologie und Moderne feierten. Severini spielte eine entscheidende Rolle bei der internationalen Förderung des Futurismus und half bei der Organisation der ersten Ausstellung außerhalb Italiens in der Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in Paris im Jahr 1912. Seine Werke aus dieser Zeit, wie *Nord-Süd* (1915), veranschaulichen den futuristischen Schwerpunkt auf die Erfassung von Bewegung und Energie durch fragmentierte Formen und lebendige Farben.
