      • James Dickson Innes wurde am 27. Februar 1887 in Llanelli, Südwales, geboren.
      • Sein Vater, John Innes, stammte aus Schottland und arbeitete als Historiker mit Interesse an lokalen Messing- und Kupferwerken. Seine Mutter hatte katalanische Abstammung.
      • Er hatte zwei Brüder, Alfred und Jack.
      • Innes erhielt seine frühe Ausbildung am Christ College, Brecon.
