      • Sein Vater war Ingenieur und sein mütterlicher Großvater, Ignazio Villa, ein angesehener Architekt und Bildhauer – was ihm eine frühe künstlerische Auseinandersetzung ermöglichte.
      • Er studierte zunächst Ingenieurwesen an der Universität Rom, gab dies aber 1903 nach einem Nervenzusammenbruch auf. Dies markierte einen Wendepunkt in Richtung Kunst.
      • Er begann seine formale künstlerische Ausbildung an der Scuola Libera del Nudo der Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, wo er seinen ersten bedeutenden Lehrer, Giacomo Balla, kennenlernte.
