      Frühes Leben und Ausbildung

      • Geboren: Kopenhagen, Dänemark (19. Oktober 1848 oder 1853 – 2. Januar 1932)
      • Emigrierte 1872 in die Vereinigten Staaten und ließ sich in Chicago nieder.
      • Studierte vier Jahre lang Architektur an der Königlichen Akademie in Kopenhagen.
      • Arbeitete zunächst als Architektenassistent, bevor er sich der Kunst widmete.
      • Studierte bei dem dänischen Marinekünstler Lauritz Holst.
      • Reiste 1875 nach Paris, wo er von dem französischen Stilllebenmaler Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin beeinflusst wurde.
