Initially drawn to grand themes of history and culture, Kim’s artistic trajectory shifted dramatically around the age of thirty, leading him to focus on the seemingly mundane – everyday objects and animals encountered in his daily life. This shift wasn't merely a stylistic choice; it represented a profound re-evaluation of perspective, a deliberate move towards capturing the emotional resonance hidden within the familiar.

      His early years were marked by exposure to music and the arts through his family’s involvement in social movements. Studying violin, oboe, and flute instilled a sensitivity to sound and form, while participation in student theatre groups honed his observational skills.
