In 1845, he captured Archduchess Auguste Ferdinande of Austria, Princess Luitpold of Bavaria, rendering the aristocratic elegance of the era through detailed clothing and royal stature. This focus on the ruling classes continued decades later. By 1863, he had produced a portrait of Louis William, Duke in Bavaria. These commissions reflect a career deeply embedded in the social hierarchies of the German states.
The scope of his portraiture extended to various prominent figures of the nineteenth century. He painted Johann Andreas Schmeller and Peter Dominikus Ludwig, Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg-Ludigsburg. His ability to navigate the requirements of his subjects allowed him to secure positions that moved from the studio to administrative roles, such as his later work as a castle administrator in Aschaffenburg.
