The Artistic Evolution of Kaljo Põllu
Kaljo Põllu was an Estonian painter, graphic artist, and art educator. His creative journey began with the independent creation of graphic and painting works during his studies at the art academy. Between 1963 and 1972, his work encompassed abstract, pop-like, and op-like paintings and graphic art. During this time, he also established and directed the artistic group Visarid.
His later career saw a dramatic shift in style as he explored influences from ancient Finno-Ugric culture. This period included several significant mezzotinto graphic collections:
From 1994 to 2008, he produced more than 100 paintings characterized by figurative impossibleness and a sense of three-dimensionality.
