His academic years included a long journey to Italy. Following the end of the First World War, he co-founded a school for applied arts in Munich with his wife, Wilhelmine “Minni” Bosshard. Artistic Style and Legacy
The artistic output of Blocherer transitioned through different phases, including a period of New Objectivity in the 1930s and a return to an expressionist painting style after the end of the war. His later large-scale oil paintings, particularly his nudes, were characterized by a broad style that occasionally drew from Fauvism. His commissions included frescoes for the War Memorial Chapel in Ruhpolding and the chapel of the children's home in Westerham, as well as designs for stained glass windows in various churches.
After his death, the Blocherer School in Munich continued under the leadership of his daughter, Annemarie Frfr. Loeffelholz von Colberg. The institution remains an active center for training in communication design and interior design.
