In this Belgian city, he found a steady rhythm of work, producing a series of paintings specifically for an art dealer. The later chapters of his life were marked by significant personal shifts and a return to more secluded settings. While his wife and daughter sought a new life in the United States, Pourtau remained in France, eventually finding himself in Vicq-sur-Gartempe. He lived through the era of the First World War, though he was declared unfit for military service during the conflict. During these years, he resided in a house near the village town hall, sharing his life with his sister, Madame Chédozeau.
His final movements took him to the neighboring village of Angles-sur l'Anglin. The trajectory of his existence moved from the academic rigor of Tours and the commercial activity of Brussels to the more intimate, localized landscapes of the French countryside.
