Lambayeque architecture

lambayeque culture (? – ?)

Explore the Lambayeque culture, known for intricate ceramics, metalwork, and textiles. Discover their rich history and artistic legacy on Peru's northern coast.

Museo Central. Banco Central de Reserva del Perú (Lima, Peru)

Explore Peru's artistic legacy at Museo Central BCRP! Admire pre-Columbian artifacts, colonial paintings & republican masterpieces housed in Lima’s historic bank building – a cultural landmark.

Ceramic representations of architectural structures give us an idea of what the buildings of different societies in ancient Peru were like. This ceramic shows how certain Lambayeque culture edifices had round windows through which both air and light entered. The façade of this building is also decorated with the step motifs seen in other artistic contexts. The guards at the entrance to the building and the special decoration of the walls appear to indicate that this ceramic is a depiction of an important building.
