Collectible Description

Nano4814’s half-abstract, half-figurative mural demonstrates the strangely discomforting yet visually arresting style which we can now instantly recognize as his own. Frequently focusing upon the apprehension he has with his own work, Nano’s characters can often be seen to be in states of tension or strain (both literally and metaphorically), an angst reinforced by their compressed captivity within their sites. Moreover, his use of brick-walls, barriers, and wooden shards, symbols that act as leitmotifs throughout his work, play with the idea of boundaries as objects that encourage intrusion and trespass: Like masks, these borders both suggest and occlude a veiled truth, hinting whilst hiding, implying yet escaping.

Artist Biography

Nano Abia

Nano Abia (Vigo, 1978) is an elusive artist with outstanding multidisciplinary skill. He began his creative work more than twenty years ago in Vigo, his native city, where he took his first steps in the traditional school of graffiti, although with time he has forged his own style and a personal aesthetic.

His fascination with skateboarding led to an absorption of the aesthetic of street culture, and he very soon started to experiment with the classic techniques of graffiti. After graduating in Fine Arts from the University of Pontevedra, he went to London for a short period of training at schools like Saint Martins School of Arts and the London College of Printing.

In 2004, he moved to Madrid to develop his artistic career, and started to exhibit at galleries and institutions both in Spain and abroad. Among the many projects he has taken part in, some of the most noteworthy are Planet Prozess in Berlin, the exhibition Urbanitas in MARCO – Museo de Arte Contemporánea in Vigo, Street Art in the Tate Modern in London. Together with Eltono, Sixe Paredes and Nuria Mora, he forms part of the artistic collective El Equipo Plástico, with which he has conducted residential projects in Peru, China and Mexico.

Within projects in which Nano has participated we could highlight «Planet Prozess» in Berlin, the exhibition Urbanitasin MARCO museum of Vigo,Street Artin Tate Modern London,Crossing Borders/Crossing Boundariesin SAM Museum of St. Petersburg orVenturing Beyondin Sommerset House of Londres, among many others.

BIOGRAPHY

Nano4814 begins to utilize the street as a place for self expression in the mid 90s. Inspired originally by the character forms of traditional graffiti writing, pronto sus piezas se cargan...\n

He conceives oniric scenarios, combining symbolic elements that frequently appears in his artworks: brick walls, perforated wire fences, broken wooden palisades … Objects that speak of intrusion and transgression, acting as some kind of mask. Barriers that suggest or hide a truth, giving clues but avoiding clarifying the painted (or sculpted) reality.

Together with Eltono, Sixe Paredes and Nuria Mora, he is part of the artistic collective El Equipo Plástico, with which he has conducted residential projects in Peru, China and Mexico.
