charles l. morgan, an american artist, was born on october 13, 1890, in mt. vernon, il. he graduated from the university of illinois in 1914, marking the beginning of his journey in the world of art and architecture.

career highlights

  • initially, morgan worked as an architect for the firm davidson, lockwood & morgan, but soon left in 1915 to establish his own architectural design and rendering firm.
  • in 1926, he traveled to europe to sketch with frank brangwyn, leading to the publication of color sketches: spain, france, england in 1927, a notable example of which can be found on the faringdon collection trust (united kingdom) - a hidden gem of art.
  • upon his return to the u.s., morgan collaborated with renowned architects, including working as an associate architect for the powhatan building in chicago and briefly as an associate of frank lloyd wright.
