The artwork displayed on this page is protected by copyright law, which means we cannot legally create or sell an identical reproduction. This protection is enforced under international agreements such as the Berne Convention and by national laws, including those outlined by the U.S. Copyright Law - Title 17.
As a respectful and legal alternative, we offer custom, hand-painted artworks inspired by the original. Our skilled and professional artists carefully study the original's style, mood, and artistic essence to create a new, unique piece that evokes the same feeling - while remaining an original creation in its own right.
This method fully complies with copyright regulations because it does not involve copying or duplicating the protected artwork. Instead, it is a creative reinterpretation - a new painting that is influenced by the original but not identical to it.
Pick from our preset sizes that match the artwork's original proportions.
Type the width and the height you need, to fit your frame or your wall. A print can only be cut, never made bigger than the picture, so a size with a different shape loses a part of the image. We send you a digital mockup to approve before we print anything. The picture shown on this page does not show the real cut — only the mockup does.

A key figure of German post-war abstraction, Nay is famed for his Scheibenbilder. Discover his vibrant, rhythmic masterpieces today.
1902 - 1968, Germany
Born in Berlin, Germany, Ernst Wilhelm Nay was the second of six children. After completing his education at the provincial school Pforta in Thuringia, he began a bookshop apprenticeship in Berlin before turning toward painting. His talent was recognized by Karl Hofer at the College of Fine Arts in Berlin, who provided him with a scholarship and inclusion in his painting class. During his studies, he met his future wife, Helene Kirchner, who worked there as a model.
His early artistic output included autodidactically painted landscapes and portraits. During a stay in Rome, he produced surrealist-abstract images, including small-format still lifes featuring shells or worms. His work during the 1930s included the "beach pictures" from Bornholm and the "fisherman's drawings," which utilized pen and ink to translate the activity of fishermen and the movement of boats into free line art.
Nay's career was marked by several distinct phases of development. Following his time in France during the war, he created the "Hekatebilder" and later the "Fugal pictures." In Cologne, he developed the "Scheibenbildern," where the circular form of the disc became a dominant motif. This period was characterized by his publication of the manifesto "From the Gestalt value of color."
His later work included several notable series:
Nay died in Cologne, leaving behind a body of work that transitioned from figurative landscapes to complex, non-objective compositions.
